Top Locations for Family Photos in Durham, North Carolina

Fall is here which means families are getting ready to update their family photos and prepare to send out Christmas cards! One of the biggest challenges when I first moved to North Carolina was finding new locations to take family portraits. To help local families find pretty locations for photos near Durham or Raleigh, I put together this photography location guide!

If you are still needing annual family photos completed this year, please don’t hesitate to reach out as I still have a few portrait sessions available! Just fill out a contact form and I will email you back as soon as possible.

I hope this provides some inspiration and helpful information to families and other photographers near by!

NC Art Museum

The NC Art Museum is not only one of my favorite museums in the area, but it also has beautiful trails with unique art installations right outside the museum. In the fall there are trees with beautiful foliage, and in the spring/summer you can find wildflowers growing in the fields. This will always be one of my top locations for family or senior portraits!

Downtown Durham

I love living in Durham and I especially love spending time in Downtown Durham whether it is attending a Durham Bulls game at the stadium, grabbing drinks at Motorco, or eating at one of the M restaurants. For clients who are looking for more of an industrial setting rather than a nature setting, Downtown Durham can be a perfect location for portraits.

At Home

What better way to capture your family in this special season of life than in your home?! I love in-home photography sessions because it allows for a more comfortable setting which creates an environment for authentic, real moments captured on photograph.

Crabtree Lake

This is a park that I just discovered this year and it is already one of my favorite locations! With lots of walking trails and open fields, this location has endless opportunities for beautiful photos. I can’t wait to take more photos here!

Woodlake Community

Woodlake is one of my favorite places to take my dog, Penny, for a walk. At the beginning of quarantine in 2020, we spent many hours getting outside and walking here. It has a trail that goes around the lake that happens to also be a pretty location for photos! This is especially one of my top locations for family photos or engagement photos in the fall time.

West Point on the Eno Park

The very first family portraits that I took when I moved to Durham was at West Point on the Eno. I love this place because it is located on the Eno and has a variety of background settings such as this Mill which you can see in this picture below.
